The 2023 MotoGP calendar loses a stage
No replacement this year, but a possible return next year
While already having to contend with a very tight schedule, even too tight for some, the MotoGP World Championship promoter did not stop forging new partnerships last year by finding new destinations such as Saudi Arabia, India and Kazakhstan.
For the last two cities, Dorna Sports has even chosen to integrate these new Grand Prix into the calendar for the 2023 season, less than a year after the announcement of the contract and without the premier category circuits having yet been approved. .
As we were entitled to expect given the context and the deadlines granted, a first meeting has already been cancelled. Therefore, the Kazakhstan Grand Prix will not take place.
Although the approval work of the Sokol International Racecourse two months before the fateful date and other operational problems have been reported, the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme, IRTA and Dorna Sport have made the decision to cancel the Kazakhstan Grand Prix entirely. And the test will not be replaced.
While this was to take place on July 7-9 between the Assen meetings in the Netherlands and Silverstone in the UK, this means the drivers will experience an earlier, but also longer summer break, with a five week break. between June 26 and August 3. How to recover from sprint races?
The integration of the Sokol circuit and the Kazakhstan Grand Prix is therefore postponed, for the moment, to the 2024 season.
