Vegan in the new year: registration for Veganuary 2024 is now possible. Eating an exclusively plant-based diet for a month is now one of the most popular and most watched New Year’s resolutions. Those interested can now get to work: Veganuary has started the official registration phase. If you want to participate, you can register on the Veganuary website (www.veganuary.com/mitmachen) with just a few clicks. Registration is free and without obligation. All participants receive valuable support for 31 days towards their personal vegan New Year’s resolution.

According to YouGov, nine percent of adults in Germany took Veganuary 2023 as an opportunity to consciously try a plant-based diet. The idea of the campaign is to make getting started as easy and fun as possible. The Veganuary email series supports you with news, facts, nutrient tips, recipes and affordable meal plans that can help you plan your vegan New Year’s resolution not only in terms of taste but also in terms of your wallet. That is new Return to the Roots meal plan with lots of extra vegetables, fruits, legumes and grains. All participants are also invited to share their experiences and adventures with the growing community, on all common social networks. The #Veganuary hashtag is a trend every January: at the beginning of 2023 it had 894 million views on TikTok alone.
A campaign for vegetables
The new campaign motifs put vegetables in the spotlight. They show how easy it is to start a plant-based diet. “We don’t have to reinvent anything because vegetables have always been healthy“says Christopher Hollmann, director of Veganuary Germany, “And that’s exactly what we want to focus on in January 2024: plants have always been good for animals, they stop climate change and they are good for us humans. Plants are simply the first option.“Awareness of this climate-friendly lifestyle is growing in Germany: in a survey by the Federal Environment Agency, the majority (56 percent) classify their own eating habits as flexitarian, vegetarian or vegan.* People who they consciously exclude focusing on a Plant-based diets are now a minority.
Retailers announce new products and special offers.
The shift towards a plant-based diet can no longer be overlooked in everyday life. Vegan alternative products and plant-based dairy drinks are a given at the supermarket. Weeks before the start of Veganuary, retail groups Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd, Edeka, Kaufland, Lidl and Rewe confirmed their active participation. Among the manufacturing companies presenting innovations and offers within the framework of Veganuary are well-known brands such as Dr. Oetker, Iglo, Kühne and numerous young and start-up companies.
Vegan specials at rest stops, restaurants and diners
The restaurant sector is also participating: Ikea Deutschland, Deutsche Bahn, Backwerk, Ditsch, Domino’s Pizza Deutschland, Hans im Glück, Peter Pane, Pizza Hut Deutschland and Subway are just some of the participating companies and chains. Also included: Lieferando and Wolt delivery services. There are also catering companies that supply company restaurants, university canteens, school canteens and clinics (including Aramark, Dussmann, Kruschina, L&D, SV Group, Transgourmet and several student unions).
Top model Stefanie Giesinger: “Every bite counts”
The number of prominent Veganuary supporters is growing. The new arrivals are pop star Lena Meyer-Landrut and Stefanie Giesinger, model and businesswoman. Stefanie says about her motives: “For me it is an incentive to know that with my diet I am not only doing something for my own health, but that I also have a positive influence on the world.
