Basketball may not be the king of sports in the UK. However, it is breaking several attendance records.
Nearly 11,000 spectators attended the Cup final at Birmingham’s Utilita Arena. The Trophy Finals will be the second major British Basketball League event of the season to witness a record attendance. More than 6,500 people are expected at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow on Sunday 20 March. And more than 10,000 tickets have already been sold for the Playoff Final scheduled for May 15 at the O2 Arena in London.
“The Cup Finals in January were a fantastic recognition of the popularity and potential of basketball in the UK. We had record crowds witnessing some of the best sporting action British basketball has to offer, and we’re delighted to see that again at this month’s Trophy Finals in Glasgow,” said Andy Webb, British Basketball League COO. .
The Trophy Finals will see the London Lions men’s and women’s teams attempt to retain their titles. The women’s team, undefeated all season, will face Sevenoaks Suns in the final, before the men’s team takes on Phoenix Cheshire.
