Spain, the United Kingdom and Portugal are the countries where the most cases have been identified in the recent outbreak of this viral disease, which is usually mild. The disease normally occurs mainly in parts of West and Central Africa.
The Argentine Ministry of Health has said that the first patient is in good health. People who have been in close contact with this person are not yet showing symptoms but are under control.

Later that day, the ministry confirmed that monkeypox had also been diagnosed in another person. It was a Spaniard who arrived in Argentina on Wednesday and the next day sores began to appear.
“The patient is in good general condition, has been isolated and is being treated symptomatically,” the ministry said. Monkeypox symptoms include fever and rash.
So far, most of the reported infections in the world are not serious. Around 20 countries where monkeypox is practically non-existent report outbreaks of the viral disease, with more than 200 confirmed or suspected infections, mainly in Europe.
The monkeypox virus can be deadly, but fortunately most people heal on their own. In West Africa, the number of people who die from monkeypox is 1 to 3.6 percent. With the Central African variant, up to 10 percent of infected people may die. The mortality rate drops dramatically if patients receive proper treatment.
