At only 29 years old, Lea Wagner has already achieved what some sports fans and, above all, young journalists probably dream of. She moderated the program “Sportschau” on ARD. She made her debut on October 21.
In previous years he had already directed the ski jumping program, he also appears in the magazine “SWR Sport”, and was present at the 2022 and 2023 World Cups and the 2021 Olympic Games in Tokyo.

If Wagner has his way, he shouldn’t limit himself to sporting events on television. In an interview with “Sport Bild” he was asked that, in addition to his sports appearances, his ARD colleagues, Esther Sedlaczek and Alex Bommes, would also moderate the “Quizduell” or the “Quizduell” or the “Quizduell” or the ” “Quizduell”. Specific demand: Will you see Lea Wagner hosting an entertainment show at some point?
The Wiesbaden native responded clearly: “In fact, I can imagine it because I really enjoy it. I’ve already been a guest on ‘Quizduell’ several times.” At least there is a wish that in the future there will also be airtime in the early evening entertainment programme.
“Sportschau” presenter classifies language errors
Another wish came true with the debut of “Sportschau” in October. However, he made a mistake in the first minute. Instead of “pro-Palestinian publications,” it said “anti-Palestinian publications.” A big difference, especially in the current situation since the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7. They asked him about it in the interview and asked who had noticed it. “For my part,” Wagner responded, “I asked the team to listen to me again. It was important for me to correct it at the end of the broadcast, especially on this topic.”
But she also agreed that slip-ups “can always happen” because she and her colleagues “moderate freely.” “We have all the statistics and names in our heads. I make bullets on the cards that I review beforehand,” reports Wagner.
At the same time, he also summarized what the preparation for his first broadcasts was like. She put a lot of pressure on herself, so the “Sportschau” team “started two or three weeks in advance” to carry out the procedures with her.. “After the support I was almost moved to tears. We stood together and applauded together, a very moving moment,” Wagner recalls of her memory of him.
Wagner also talks about his relationship with his father, David. He is a soccer coach, he worked in Germany at Schalke 04, but he also coached Borussia Dortmund II and currently has a contract with Norwich City in the English second division.
She describes how her father watches her appear on television: “In the ‘Sportschau’ he is just a father and he is happy to see me again, because that happens very rarely.” Basically, he regularly exchanges ideas with the 52-year-old about how he conducts interviews: “He is completely the coach and tells me whether the questions were correct. We also talk about game scenes and tactics.”
