AngloGold Ashanti announced the appointment of Richard Jordinson as Chief Operating Officer, effective 1 October 2023. He joined AngloGold Ashanti in 2012 as Managing Director of Sunrise Dam, Australia, where he was responsible for mine strategy for transition from the open pit. from mining to large-scale underground mining. He was previously the general manager of Resolute Mining’s Syama gold mine in Mali.
In April 2017, Richard was appointed Managing Director of the Geita Gold Mine, AngloGold Ashanti’s largest producing asset, where he led the team in Tanzania for over four years. During this period, Geita managed to move to underground production at three different mine fronts, establishing a new open pit mine at Nyamulilima and nearly doubling mineral reserves. Throughout this transition, Geita has been AngloGold Ashanti’s most secure operation, breaking all safety records and winning the AGA Global Safety Award for three consecutive years.
Geita is now universally regarded as one of the world’s leading Tier 1 gold mines with a bright future. In 2021, Richard was appointed Senior Vice President of AngloGold Ashanti’s Ghana-Tanzania business unit, leading and supporting the development of a strong team in both countries to drive performance. During this time, Geita has continued to improve, Obuasi has continued to progress towards the world-class mine that it is, and Iduapriem has been secure and reliable in terms of budget ahead of its joint venture proposal with Tarkwa to create the world’s largest gold mine. from Africa. .
Richard brings to this role 38 years of industrial experience gained in the gold, iron ore, nickel, zinc and lead mining sectors. At AngloGold Ashanti he has shown that he can add value to the portfolios he has helped lead by bringing new operations to production on time and on budget and overseeing complex transitions to underground mining. Richard holds an ACSM mining degree from the Camborne School of Mines in Cornwall, UK, and a Western Australian First Class Mine Manager Certificate.
Richard will replace Marcelo Godoy, who has been interim COO since July following the retirement of Ludwig Eybers.
