Alexa arrives at nursing homes

Amazon today announced the launch of Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living, a solution that enables nursing homes in France, the UK, Italy and Germany to integrate Alexa into their properties. Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living was designed specifically for the needs of seniors and those who accompany them. Alexa keeps residents connected, informed and entertained simply by talking to Alexa.

Alexa Smart Properties also allows residents to stay in touch with loved ones off the premises through calls between Alexa-enabled devices. A resident’s family members can easily communicate with them via video calls, giving them great peace of mind. Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living can also help facility managers personalize resident experiences and promote engagement within their properties by displaying activities, restaurant menus, and important reminders through Amazon Echo Show devices (devices with Alexa-equipped display).

Residents of these properties can thus achieve greater independence thanks to connected home functionalities such as lighting control, blinds or connected thermostats that allow residents to control their environment with just their voice, which also allows staff save time and focus on high value. -Added activities such as welfare or social activities with residents.

“We believe the intuitive and accessible nature of voice technology and Alexa has the potential to help and delight customers in many settings, inside and outside the home.” said Meryem Tom, Director of Alexa Enterprise EU, Amazon. “We are excited to extend the experiences clients already love to senior facilities across Europe and provide professionals with new ways to support their staff and deliver personalized experiences for their residents. »

Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living is integrated into a selection of residences and is already available in France in several Korian group establishments. This solution is also available in the UK with Ascom Software at Majesticare residences, and will soon be available in Germany at the Heinrich-Haus Senior Center (of the Josefs-Gesellschaft group) and in Italy at a Dussman group property.

Fabrice Flottes de Pouzols, Director of Korian Solutions, said: “Our vision through this innovative project was to improve the well-being of our residents by allowing them to easily stay connected to the life of the establishment, as well as promoting their autonomy by meeting some of their needs thanks to Alexa. » He adds : “We are convinced that technology has the capacity to improve the quality of life of the elderly. We wanted to create an experience that would allow seniors to have more social interactions and get the most out of each day. Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living helps our residents become more involved in residential life. »

Deploy solutions at scale with Alexa Smart Properties

Alexa Smart Properties APIs and tools enable solution providers to manage and maintain a fleet of Alexa-enabled devices quickly, remotely, and at facility scale. Korian relied on voice agency Taiwan to create a Skill (voice application for Alexa) and use Alexa Smart Properties to easily deploy and customize a large number of Alexa-enabled devices.

Privacy at the heart of design

The Alexa Smart Properties for Senior Living solution was designed with privacy in mind. Each Amazon Echo device offers multiple levels of privacy protection, and residents can disable Alexa’s ability to respond to the wake word at any time simply by pressing the microphone mute button on top of their Echo device.
