Matilda the Musical is rated AGP-PG, meaning it is suitable for general audiences, but some elements may not be suitable for very young children. This rating is due to some scenes containing strong language and situations that may be a bit intense for younger children. However, these moments are handled carefully and contribute to the overall uplifting message of the story. Parents are encouraged to use discretion when bringing young children to the show.
Matilda the Musical tells the story of an extraordinary young girl who, armed with a boundless imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. The musical has won numerous awards, including seven Olivier Awards in the UK and five Tony Awards in the US.
In this production, Chloe Rader plays teacher Miss Honey. Originally from the Mid-Ohio Valley and a frequent AGP performer, this actress is thrilled to be playing such an iconic role.
“I think what inspires me most about my character is the way he stands up for Matilda and the rest of his students, despite his own fears. I try to integrate this into my show by creating a strong bond with the children on and off stage. This connection with my “class” makes it easier for me to think about looking after them and protecting them from The Trunchbull.”
“The Trunchbull” is Miss Agatha Trunchbull, the headmistress of Matilda's school. Her bite is as vicious as her bark and she is played by AGP veteran RJ Lowe.
The main production features 30 performers, including many children.
“Working with so many kids was… very exhausting,” Lowe said of the experience. “They really have a lot of energy. Once I figure out how to bottle all that combustibility, I’ll be RICH!”
Other cast members include Vera Lochard as Matilda; Kevin Paul as Mr. Wormwood; Morgan Stubbe-Fearnow as Mrs. Wormwood; Chris Lewis as Rudolpho/Escapologist; and Quessa Brown as Mrs. Phelps.
Josh Martin directs the film and is assisted by musical director Barbara Full, choreographer Morgan Parsons, assistant directors Ashley Fluharty and Gwen Sour, costume designers Betty Dotson and Rachel Martin, production assistant Rachel Martin, technical director Nathan Arnold and Councilman David Rexroad.
The show is made possible by sponsorship from Jan Dils and Family Carpet.
