Mitsuoka is a quirky Japanese automaker that can turn any car into anything else. His creations may seem like that, often ridiculous, but it’s probably because you’re not crazy enough to buy one.
Thus came the Orochi, a mid-engine sports car first presented as a concept at the Tokyo Motor Show in 2001 before entering production in 2006 and lasting until 2014, the time to find 400 buyers!
The car takes its name from Yamata-no-Orochi, an eight-headed dragon from Japanese mythology. In fact, this is a reference to the fact that the model assembly is a cheerful mosaic of parts from eight famous Japanese cars from the 1990s and 2000s:
– a Nissan Cima grille;
– Toyota Aristo headlights;
– Toyota Sera doors;
– a Mazda RX-7 rear bumper;
– Nissan Skyline GT-R taillights;
– a rear spoiler from the Subaru Legacy Blitzen;
– Toyota Camry engine;
and finally, a Honda NSX chassis…
Whatever your opinion of the design resulting from this esoteric assembly, it is certainly not banal. It is indeed a unique car, further equipped with Lamborghini-style doors and a sumptuously finished interior to ensure it looks spectacular and desirable.
Of course, things may not be extravagant and exotic enough under the hood for such stylistic exuberance, but the Camry’s 3.3-liter V6 still develops 233 hp in the base version and up to 304 hp in its supercharged variant called Kabuto, produced in just 5 years. units.
The example presented here, offered for sale on the Collecting Cars website, unfortunately has almost never had the opportunity to stand out on the road because this Orichi only has 81 km on the odometer. Purchased by its first owner in Japan in 2009 and shipped to Singapore, this 2009 Orochi Kabuto was stored there in an underground garage and then never driven. Imported to the UK in 2020, it was serviced there and has only covered an additional 4km since…
