Singapore (dpa) – “Natural talent” Prince William led his team to victory in a dragon boat race in Singapore. The 41-year-old did not miss a single shot, praised team captain Chris Bosher. Wearing a white polo shirt under a life jacket and a black cap, the British heir to the throne stood out from the 22-row “British Dragons” team, which was otherwise dressed in red. “I love sports,” William said, especially praising the bow drummer. “The drum was very good, very good rhythm.”
William traveled with a mixed crew of 14 nationalities. “It’s fantastic to see the power of sport to bring communities together,” Kensington Palace’s official X account captioned a short clip of the race. “Paddlers from Singapore, the UK and across the Commonwealth experience the incredible camaraderie of their dragon boat team.”
Captain Bosher then told Britain’s PA news agency: “He was extraordinary, he said ‘really guys, I want us to win’.” Dragon boat racing is a popular sport in Singapore, with many foreigners residing in the Southeast Asian city-state taking part. It was not the first such race for William: in 2011, he won a duel against his wife, Princess Kate, in Canada.
The eldest son of King Charles III. He landed on Sunday to great cheers in Singapore, where he wants to choose this Tuesday the winners of the environmental prize he founded, the Earthshot Prize.
