In 2015 the “Liquidation Law” was modernized. Succession to the throne is now gender-independent: previously they were only entitled to male heirs. The order of birth is also important. Following the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the former Crown Prince Charles is now the new King of Great Britain. He calls himself Carlos III and since then his wife Camila has carried the title of “Queen consort”. Elizabeth II had arranged it this year. It was her “sincere wish” from her, Elizabeth II announced on February 6, a day before her 70th birthday. With the coronation of Carlos, Camilla will hold the title of “Queen”. Charles’ eldest son, Prince William, becomes heir apparent upon the queen’s death. The titles of the 40-year-old and his wife Kate have been expanded: instead of Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, they are now Duke and Duchess of Cornwall and Cambridge. The king also bestowed on them the title he and his late first wife Diana once held: “Prince and Princess of Wales.”
The tabloid “The Sun” reports that Carlos has no plans to make his younger brother Duke of Edinburgh, although that was the wish of his father, Prince Philip, who died in April 2021.
What is certain, however, is that now that Charles is King of Great Britain, all his male heirs will carry the title “Prince of Great Britain and Northern Ireland” and the title “His Royal Highness.” This also applies to Harry’s son Archie.
