The fight against illegal immigration is one of the priorities of the ruling conservative majority, which has so far worked hard to discourage candidates, despite a toughening of its policies.

More than 10,000 migrants have been detected crossing the English Channel in small boats since the beginning of the year, according to figures published on Sunday June 18 by the British Home Office, which is fighting tirelessly against these illegal crossings.

Only on Saturday seven boats with 374 people arrived on the British coast, according to the daily report published by the Government, which brings to 10,139 the total number of immigrants who have arrived by this dangerous route since the beginning of the year.

However, this figure is still lower than that observed at the same time last year. But after several weeks of unfavorable weather conditions, crossings have picked up considerably in recent days thanks to better weather, with more than 2,500 people arriving on the British coast between June 10 and 17.

A hardening of his policy

During all of 2022, more than 45,000 crossings were registered, a record. The fight against illegal immigration is one of the priorities of the ruling conservative majority, which has so far worked hard to discourage candidates, despite a toughening of its policies.

Last year the government passed a law – so far blocked by the courts – to send asylum seekers to Rwanda. And a new bill, criticized even by the UN, plans to prevent migrants arriving through the Canal from requesting asylum. London has also signed several agreements with other countries such as France or Albania to better fight this illegal immigration.
