How was the coronation of Elizabeth II in 1953?

More than a year after her father’s death on February 6, 1952, Elizabeth II is already on the throne. On June 2, 1953, the coronation formalized his role. : that of monarch of the United Kingdom, head of the Church of England and leader of the Commonwealth.

This June 2, 1953, the queen joins in her golden carriage Westminster Abbey. To organize this historic day, the models of London made it possible to visualize the route. Arriving at the abbey, Elizabeth II advances in full dress. Dressed in a majestic white dress, the queen had trained to walk with his train and her six bridesmaids.

He is given the scepter and the orb (the golden globe), the ancient symbols of royalty. And yet, the coronation of Elizabeth II marks the entry of the royal family into modernity. At the instigation of Philip, the Queen’s husband, technology enters westminster abbey : TV cameras broadcast the ceremony on TV.

After the ceremony, Elizabeth II returns to Buckingham and say hello from the balcony the crowd came to pay him homage. Millions of people flock to see the new queen of hers.
